The Early Years:
“My father’s music library was as varied as his many travels. I grew up listening to just about everything from the steel pan-flavored calypso hits of David Rudder, Gypsy, Lord Kitchner and the Mighty Sparrow himself…to the classic renditions of Sir Cliff Richard, Neil Diamond, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke…to the earliest recordings of Sunny Ade, Onyeka Onwenu, Salif Keita, Miriam Makeba….I listened to just about everything….and I loved it!
How It All Began:
“I guess the love affair with music for me started pretty early.I had a comment on my nursery school report that read “she loves to sing”. I sang everywhere and anywhere, really loud. Soon enough I realised people were listening. I haven’t stopped since”.
Inspiration:
“I’m inspired by the colourful existence that is life. But as any true soul singer would affirm, I love to write and sing about love; be it lost, found, unrequited, sought, given or rejected. There’s always plenty of that around.”
